Through rapid-fire video-game graphics, interviews, war footage and satire END:CIV mocks the excesses of the global economic system, and examines the necessity for effective resistance. All Divided Selves, Luke Fowler's latest work, continues his filmic investigation into R.D. Laing. The screening will be followed by an improvised set from Luke and Richard Youngs. Film at 7.30pm, sounds at 10pm.

Over the last five years an independent record shop has closed in the UK every three days.

SOUND IT OUT (75 mins) is a documentary portrait of the very last surviving vinyl record shop in Teesside, North East England. A cultural haven in one of the most deprived areas in the UK, SOUND IT OUT documents a place that is thriving against the odds and the local community that keeps it alive. Directed by Jeanie Finlay who grew up three miles from the shop.

Celebrating ten years of “music for the strange kid at school”, Newcastle’s Distraction Records present an all-day event featuring cosmic kraut disco, dub-laced metal, electronic drone, blissful ambient, and other diverse musical excursions.

English Language Conversation Group

Weekly conversation session for people to practice speaking English in an informal friendly setting. The group is informal and volunteer run. Aims to be inclusive and anti-discriminatory. Free. Travel costs can be paid for people who would otherwise not be able to come.

All titles are available to browse and borrow for free. The Star and Shadow also houses a large collection of film, photography and theatre books available for browsing and reference.
