How to Get Involved

The Star and Shadow Cinema runs on the love and work of a large and ever-growing collective of volunteers.

Please help with Warwick Street Refurbishment

The building we have purchased needs full refurbishment. As much as possible will be done by volunteer labour.  Whatever your skill-level you are welcome to come along and involved in the radical refurbishment of our new home.

Turn up on site on the days mentioned below and a site safety supervisor will give you an induction.

We've got protective clothing galore, refreshments by the gallon and a massive skip that needs filling.

If you'd rather support us in other ways we need a vegetarian communal meal cooked every Saturday. Or bake us a cake !!

To keep up to date with volunteering opportunities make sure you sign up to

Future Needs

We expect to open early 2018. When we open we will need volunteer workers in the following areas.

film projection : bar work : designing brochures and posters: database update : website update : emailing : ushering : choosing films : planning festivals : booking bands: researching new event ideas:: decorating : cleaning (those big windows won’t clean themselves): tidying inside and outside: gardening: fixing broken things : recycling : collecting freecycled things : sweeping : stocktaking : ordering stock : writing copy : selling tickets : writing funding applications and fundraising: bookkeeping : paying bills:  managing our license : DJing : organising gigs : everything else and more…

You can volunteer for a job, a one-off occasion, a regular weekly slot – however it best fits with you.

Put on your own event at the Star & Shadow

We run a unique system of open programming whereby grass roots community organisations, independent artists and any member of the public can come and promote their own social causes via film, music, discussions and working groups. We provide the space and facilities for this to happen. We will be open for events in June 2017. If you want to plan ahead contact details are below
