Gig: Riverside: Newcastle's Legendary Alternative Music Venue (Book Launch)

THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT. NOTE GUESTLIST IS CLOSED DUE TO CAPACITY An event celebrating the launch of a new book, Riverside: Newcastle's Legendary Alternative Music Venue by Hazel Plater and Carl Taylor, published by Tonto Books. The night will consist of an exclusive screening of a new 45 minute edit of the 'lost' 1991 Tyne Tees TV fly-on-the-wall show 'Riverside' (8 pm screening) followed by live sets from two North East bands PUPPY FAT and HUG who are reforming especially to play this launch. Copies of the book will be available for sale on the night. SOLD OUT EVENT (£1 S&S 2011 membership required for first timers). Doors open 7.30 pm. All ticket proceeds to the Star and Shadow (fundraiser event). All attendees consent to being filmed or sound recorded as part of the audience.

A daytime event, using the cinema and bar, as part of 'the big draw' : its aims being quite simply to encourage people to draw. Projected drawing in the cinema, collaborative comic making and large-scale participatory stuff. Details will be confirmed nearer the time, but this will be an event using the full cinema, involving lots of our creative and crafty local auteurs in full-on messing about. Join us! Film: Uranium - Is It A Country, Film And Debate 2-5pm (2011)

Film and debate about the pros and cons of nuclear energy. The film shows the dirty side of so-called 'clean' nuclear energy. Where uranium comes from,where it goes to and what is left behind. The film takes us to Australia to the world's largest uranium mine and to Europe where this source of 'clean energy' is a gold mine for the energy corporations. The film will be followed by speakers for and against nuclear power. Organised by Medact, an organisation of health professionals tackling the roots of conflict.

Sarah Diehl's documentary feature explores and contrasts changes in Poland and South Africa regarding abortion laws and their impact on the lives of women.
