Film: Confessions (2010)

The story of a teacher who gets revenge on the pupils she believes are responsible for her daughter’s death. It received a positive response globally, with critics praising the director's style, the acting and other things. It was the Japanese entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.

During 1974 violent miners' strike in a North East village a teenage artist meets gorgeous girl from London. Together they attempt to escape which causes him to betray his family, community and best friends. An uplifting and soulful mix of cool 1970s styles, romance, teenage rebellion and gritty social realism.

Tetsuya Nakashima’s entertaining and emotionally powerful “fairytale tragedy” about a bored college student who, whilst attempting to piece together the life of his estranged aunt Matsuko (who has recently died in the park), finds himself becoming more and more attached to her.

Gig: Bridget Hayden

10 Feb 2012, 8 p.m.

Using just a guitar, two pedals and a 4-track, Hayden succeeds in creating a surprisingly dense sound, yet with the softness and patience to lull one into an enchanting trance. This music could be described as "drone" or "noise". She herself has described her music as "fucked-up Blues", which makes more sense.

Film: Diagnosing Difference

Diagnosing Difference features interviews with 13 diverse scholars, activists, and artists who identify on the trans spectrum (transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, and gender variant) about the impact and implications of the Gender Identity Disorder (GID) on their lives and communities. Diagnosing Difference is purposefully personal, seeking to expand the experience of the audience, provoke thought, and create as many questions as it answers.
