This gig is a fundraiser for the Star and Shadow's English Language Conversation Group. A weekly not-for-profit, volunteer run workshop, aiming to help asylum seekers and non-english speaking people learn English, socialise and become a part of the local community. The event is organised by the Star and Shadow Cinema, with help from Leave Me Here Presents, Blank Studios and Nitelites.

The collection includes graphic novels, art, feminism, queer, gender, lgbt, politics, sex, health, relationships, DIY, anarchism, philosophy, global struggles, science, nature and environment, worker's struggles, history, prison struggles, cookery, anti-racism and information for action. All titles are available to browse and borrow for free. The Star and Shadow also houses a collection of film, photography and theatre books available for browsing and reference.
