Brochure bit:

The 1985 Film version of what is probably the definitive novel of the 20th century. It remains  contemporary, and the  terms "Big Brother", "Doublethink" and "Newspeak" have become part of everyday language. The original novel (Nineteen Eighty Four) has been translated into 65 languages and sold millions of copies worldwide, giving the author George Orwell a place in world literature.  "Orwellian" is now a universal shorthand for anything repressive or totalitarian, and the story of Winston Smith, a man of his time and ours.

Season/Theme ideas:

Essential viewing and/or reading for students of society and organisations. Presenting a challenge to the proto-manigerialism that has come to replace the administrative systems of the welfare state, since the re-emergence of neo-liberalism in the 1980's. It will form the starting point of a long-season that both celebrates resistance, and challenges neo-liberalism. The film and season will be introduced by a lesser known academic and organisational theorist at Newcastle University.

Notes:

This date was originally reserved by Andrew Wilson a possible film screening connected to 'Convention, Habit or Custom' at Newbridge project. The space has been passed to Robin Brown by negotiation. The film was pencilled into the programme at the General Meeting on the 25/2/2013, confirmation subject to Robin negotiating the rights and a nice price.

I am working with Amy regarding publicity, since it has missed the brochure, but I guess rather ironically, I could fill the cinema with my management students.
