ALL KINDS OF EVIL, a dystopian Gothic Fairy-tale set in a contempory North East England disseminated by financial crisis and economic cuts. Influenced by seminal Noirs SE7EN, NIGHT OF THE HUNTER and ANGEL HEART, AKOE is a dark morality tale of a woman forced to look after a briefcase for seven days without knowing its contents.

Stylistically shot in Black & White, invoking Expressionist Cinema with thematic use of shadows, AKOE provides a visceral comment on today’s fiscally obsessed society in the contexts of the horror/thriller genre. The film explores the decaying visual landscape of the North East coast including Blyth, Tynemouth Station and Whitley Bay Spanish City.

Pre-recorded dialogue is synced during filming locations at double speed providing a surreal visual style upon playback of the protagonists performing at normal speed against a time dilated background.

+ LIVE JAZZ MUSICIANS

The soundtrack features a bespoke Improvised Jazz score created by live musicians as a direct response to the images on the screen to create a homage to the smoky jazz club sounds of 1930 ‘depression era’ America and artists of the like Billie Holiday.
