On Saturday 31st October Star and Shadow Cinema are at St. Michael’s Church Byker celebrating the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain (pronounced sow-inn), or the modern Halloween. Marking the beginning of winter, the end of harvest and reflecting on natures rhythms.

Situated within the Byker Wall  (NE6 2DX)  wall, up on a hill it has the best views of the city along the river out to the Tyne Valley. 4pm: Gather in the church yard for activities and feasting around a fire. Watch the sunset.

5pm: Film Coraline, rated PG, 100 minutes, Inside the church. Described as creepy rather than horror, this is a 3D animated fantasy depicting an adventurous girl finding an idealised parallel world behind a secret door in her new home, unaware that the alternate world contains a dark and sinister secret. 7pm-9pm: Food, Drink and Music. A drumming, jamming session using some rudimental instruments with local ensemble Phallactite. Suitable for all ages. It is recommended you wrap up very well as the church can get cold. Even bring a blanket but some will be available. Tickets will be £2 on the door per person or donation. Thank you to Phil Medley for offering the use of the church while we await our own new home.
