'The Hills are alive with the sound of music, with songs they have sung for a thousand years'. Come and see this ever-favourite Hollywood musical.  Every song is a classic that you will want to belt out, or whistle, or hum, or mime, while a story of love, fun and song unfolds on screen.

Set in 1930s Austria on the brink of social change, The Sound of Music is the story of love, decisions, and song! Maria makes a terrible nun, so terrible that even the Mother Superior wants rid of her. Maria is sent to the Von Trapp family home to act as governess to the seven mischevious Von Trapp children. Here she warms the heart of not only the children but also the iron hearted Captain Georg Von Trapp.

The Sound of Music is a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, directed by Robert Wise, starring Dame Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. It was nominated for 10 Oscars in 1966 (and won 5: Best Picture, Director, Music, Editing and Sound). It’s a film truly loved by many and now’s your chance to be a part of it!

The Sound of Music features some of the greatest songs in musical history, including: The Sound of Music, (How do you solve a problem like) Maria, My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, Edelweiss, and So Long, Farewell. You’ll be surprised at how many of these songs you know by heart, but to help you along (if you want to join in) we will provide you with a hymn sheet!
