Helen Hill was a filmmaker, social activist, and author of Recipes for Disaster: A Handcrafted Film Cookbooklet (2000).
The United States Congress National Film Archive contains Scratch and Crow (1995), which it describes as “Filled with vivid colour and a light sense of humour. It is also a poetic and spiritual homage to animals and the human soul”.
Helen Hill's films are hands-on, DIY, full of kitchen-table animation and a sense of wide-eyed joy. She was political, believed that everyone should make films, and worked hard to make this happen.
“If there was going to be a Revolution, Helen was determined that it should include vegan cake, cotton candy art, and lots of smooching”.
