One of the greatest masterpieces of the 20th century, Sergei Paradjanov's "The Colour of Pomegranates", a biography of the Armenian troubadour Sayat Nova (King of Song) reveals the poet's life more through his poetry than a conventional narration of important events in Sayat Nova's life.
We see the poet grow up, fall in love, enter a monastery and die, but these incidents are depicted in the context of what are images from Sergei Paradjanov's imagination and Sayat Nova's poems, poems that are seen and rarely heard. Sofiko Chiaureli plays 6 roles, both male and female, and Sergei Paradjanov writes, directs, edits, choreographs, works on costumes, design and decor and virtually every aspect of this revolutionary work void of any dialog or camera movement.
The World Is A Window: Making the Colour of Pomegranates (2011) a 75-minute documentary about the making of Sergei Paradjanov's classic The Colour of Pomegranates shot in Armenia, Georgia and Russia (for Second Sight Films, UK).
Extra unreleased footage: Peter Brook visiting Paradjanov's flat, and a film by Yuri Mechitov 15min The director of The World is a Window - Daniel Bird will introduce the films and will be available for Q&A at the end of the evening.

Film: Viva La Muerte (1971)
16 Mar 2012, 7:30 p.m.
An extremely rare chance to see a print of a masterpiece of its type. Fernando Arrabal, was co-founder of the Panic Movement with Alejandro Jodorowski and this film owes much to that style. However where his more famous collaborator's work is unapologetically trippy, Arrabal's films and plays use the same chaotic and extreme language to serve a social conscience of sorts.

31
Film: El Topo (1970)
31 Mar 2012, 7:30 p.m.
Jodorowsky is El Topo, the black clad gunslinger and he's looking for trouble. The Midnight Movie sensation El Topo, like a cross between Sergio Leone and Siddharta, is not a classic for it's genre - because it does not have one!

05
Film: Fando And Lis (1968)
5 Apr 2012, 7:30 p.m.
This tale of sadomasochistic love and unattainable paradise premiered at the 1968 Acapulco Film festival, inciting a riot that forced the director Alejandro Jodorowsky to flee for his life.
