No-fi Present: FLOWER-CORSANO DUO/ PATRICK FARMER & DOMINIC LASH/ MATINEE ORCHESTRA

No-Fi leading the field in experimental music: #5 in.

The phenomenal double-headed beast that is the coupling of Vibracathedral's Mick Flower and percussive everyman Chris Corsano returns to Newcastle in the same week their NO-FI 7" is unleashed to the world. Corsano has been widely hailed as the next chapter in the story of out-there drumming - he's played with everyone worth mentioning at the massive freenoisefolkpsych crossroads. (He's also just been recruited by Bjork's live band for the next year or so, and appears on her forthcoming album, along with Lightning Bolt and Konono No.1). Similarly, Mick's renowned for his work with Vibracathedral Orchestra and Sunburned Hand Of The Man, amongst many others. Together they construct a devilishly beautiful maelstrom, Chris like a polyrhythmic octopus on the kit, Mick conjuring sublime lysergic ragas from the shaahi baaja (or Japan Banjo, though it looks more like a primitive lap steel). They almost caused the collapse of Morden Tower with their set at the Jack Rose show in 2006 and, judging by the ferocity of the 7", this show won't be any different. In support on this mammoth bill are Midlands-based improvisors Patrick Farmer and Dominic Lash. Dominic plays contrabass and electric bass, and works with Tony Bevan and Steve Noble amongst others. Patrick Farmer is one half of improv duo The Good Anna and a member Designer Babies. As if that's not enough, Andy Hodson's Matinee Orchestra open the show by treating us to an Arkestra-style big band journey
