The Daydreaming Archivist

to

Very rare screenings of archive footage from the 1920s to the 1980s, taken out of the Northern Regional Film and Television Archive, and that haven’t been seen for decades!

How did this programme come about?

A small group of Star and Shadow Cinema volunteers and filmmakers were treated to full access of the Northern Regional Film and Television Archive based in Teeside Univeristy, Middlesbrough, where they sat, mesmerised like explorers, through hours of archive footage.

3 PROGRAMMES

After watching an immense amount of footage, they have made up 3 programmes of excellent films, which show some of the hidden highlights of the archive, where modest and poignant pieces accompany humorous and touching films.

- The Eccentric Selection- Protest, Police and The Social Contract- Amateurs and Auteurs

+ PREMIERE OF NEW FILMS

The filmmakers participating to the project also made films from archive footage, by creatively editting bits and pieces into new works. These exciting new experiemntal films will be premiered on 15 June 2011.

EUROPEAN TOUR

This project is supported by the UK Film Council and the Northern Film and Media and the Digital Film Archive Fund, and this programme of films will be touring the UK and Europe after being screened at the Star and Shadow Cinema.

Film: The Daydreaming Archivist: The Eccentric Selection (Various)

13 Apr 2011, 7:30 p.m.

The Daydreaming archivist is a series of selections from the Northern Regional Film and TV Archive made by Film Bee collective. In this 2nd archive screening we explore the amazing ephemera that we could not make fit a theme. Commercials, Community and Amateur film and Television News sit side by side like siblings in a bathtub sharing a strain of humour, insight and the benefit of hindsight. These are unique artifacts you will almost certianly never have the opportunity to see again.

Film: The Daydreaming Archivist: Protest, Police And The Social Contract (Various)

25 May 2011, 7:30 p.m.

We present a series of films from the Northern Regional Film and Television Archive which look at the social contract in relation to protest from various points of view: local news, police instruction films, amateur film and the seminal World In Action program about the 1968 Grosvenor Square Riots.

Film: The Daydreaming Archivist: Amateurs And Auteurs

15 Jun 2011, 7:30 p.m.

Tonight is the launch of the new film commissions, and a screening of amateur films from the archive which largely posthumously celebrate an approach to filmmaking which has since gone viral, but twenty years ago was the basis for some good old group activities.
