John Sayles second feature film focuses on the experiences of a woman who finds herself starting life over after coming out of the closet as a lesbian. As she struggles to accept her own sexuality, Lianna (Linda Griffiths), must also deal with her husband’s (Jon DeVries) doubly-hurt sense of sexual betrayal, the half-formed understandings of her children, who’ve only just become aware of conventional sexual realities, and the ambivalence of once-close women friends.
