In a world where femininity is outlawed, supermodels are in death camps, and beauticians are criminals, a handful of beauty renegades have come together to fight for the freedom of skin care.
In this hilariously satirical post-modern fairytale, lesbian leader Diana pilots her groupies through militant femininity training in which Cosmopolitan is the scripture. After her lover is assassinated for the cause, Diana falls for Helen, an escapee from an arranged marriage to a political bigwig.
What follows includes Sapphic fairytale love (replete with fireworks), a break-in at Area 51 (which holds the government's sex files), and enough shenanigans to keep viewers laughing for hours. It's little surprise that director Jennifer M. Kroot's exuberantly campy tale was a huge hit at San Francisco's International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival last summer; giving Charles Busch competition, she takes Sirens places no other female filmmaker has dared tread.
