Heart of Glass (Herz aus Glas) (1976)

Part of the W. Herzog Film Season

Director: W.Herzog
Certificate: Guideline PG
Format: 35mm
Language: German

Truly a masterpiece and like all great works of art it is not easy.

The story concerns a town in which the master glass maker is searching for the formula to make "ruby glass" which has been lost after the previous master died unexpectedly.

The whole film, co-written by the extraordinary Herbert Achternbusch is richly steeped in alegory and a mythology unique to it's own universe. Herzog claims the cast performed all their scenes under hypnosis.

Other films in the W. Herzog Film Season:

Film: Even Dwarfs Started Small (1970)

This must be Herzog's most controversial film. Set in an unidentified institution a rebelion has taken place and anarchy reigns supreme.

Film: Stroszek (1977)

The deluded search of the American dream. Utterly brilliant.

Film: Aguirre, Wrath Of God (1972)

The season wouldn't be complete without a film starring the inimitable Klaus Kinski. The most famous of W. Herzog films. T ranscendent.

23 Jan 2009, 7:30 p.m.
